What's your workplace love language? How do you like to be recognized for a job well done?
Here at the Sugar Cube, we very recently welcomed a few new staff members and decided to create a questionnaire and ask our team just that! What we found out, wasn't all that shocking, at least to us anyway.
- Words of Affirmation
- A Vocal Discussion
- Genuine Feedback
- Encouragement
That seems pretty straightforward, right? Some genuine encouragement, paired with a healthy work-life balance allows for a job that one could easily enjoy. Plus, ours happens to include copious amounts of candy, it's like living the dream. 🥳
Don't get us wrong, food was most definitely on that list! To be very precise it was "Buy me food, specifically ice cream and I am your eternal slave" 😂 We do love a self-aware queen!Â
Enough about us! Let's talk about you!
Here are 10 ways to show Employee Recognition that helps to increase Motivation, Morale, Innovation, Loyalty and of course Productivity.Â
Â
- Host an employee recognition brunch or lunch, where employees can enjoy a meal together and receive special awards or recognition. We're talking about the Dundees but on another level!
- Allow employees to participate in volunteer or community service projects, which can help them feel more connected to their work and community.
- Offer "flex hours" or other work-life balance benefits. Recognize employees' dedication and hard work with a little me time!
- Encourage a "Bring Your Pet to Work Day" if you have the space. It allows employees to relax and have fun while still being productive. If you listen closely you might even hear an "Ooooh that's a big stretch" in unison.
- Create a peer recognition program! Employees can nominate their colleagues for special awards based on their contributions and achievements. You could use a point system and after so many are accumulated, they can trade them in for activities, experiences or perhaps monetary gifts.
- Offer professional development opportunities or training programs as a way to recognize employees' skills and talents and help them grow in their careers. Continuing education is so beneficial when it's desired.
- Provide wellness or health benefits, such as gym memberships, meditation classes, or team-building excursions as a way to recognize and support employees' overall well-being. Chase those endorphins!
- If your team is comfortable, shout them out on social media! Nothing is a better boost to your self-esteem than your place of work shouting your praises from the rooftops. It gives you those warm fuzzies!
- If someone on your team is celebrating their birthday, perhaps that qualifies them for a day off! If that's not always possible, celebrate! Go out to lunch, order their favourite dessert, and have the team sign a card. It's the little things that make a difference!
- Finally, back to how we started! ASK YOUR EMPLOYEES WHAT THEY WANT! Get to know your team, and find out their hobbies and interests. Simply Individualizing your rewards can make a remarkable difference and shows your employees how much you appreciate them working with you.
I know we said 10, but we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn't add one more.
CANDY, obviously! 😃
Every day, we help to celebrate someone with candy. Celebrating employees with candy is a great way to recognize their efforts and show appreciation. Candy is a simple and affordable gift that can brighten up an employee's day and make them feel recognized and valued. Here are a few ways to use candy to celebrate your employees:
- An Employee of the Month: Create an Employee of the Month program and recognize the winner with a CandyGram. Display their photo and a description of their accomplishments in a prominent place in the office.
- Milestone Achievements: Recognize employees who achieve milestones such as hitting targets or completing a project on time. Give them a bag of their favourite candy to celebrate their success. Our Spread the Joy Candy Bags are perfect!
- Birthdays and Anniversaries: Celebrate employee birthdays and work anniversaries with Weekly Survival Kit. It shows that you are paying attention to the details and value their contribution to the team, beyond one day of the year.
- Team Success: Celebrate team successes with a Candy Buffet. We'll set you up with a whole interactive event and a variety of candies for employees to enjoy. If you're looking for something a little smaller, Candy Platters are a perfect choice!
Remember, recognition doesn't have to be grand or expensive to make an impact. A small gesture like a bag of candy can go a long way in making an employee feel worthy and valued. It definitely works for us!
